Learn what brings you joy and recharge your batteries in ways you never thought possible!
I get up in the morning to head to the gym. Why? When I get to the gym, I hop on the treadmill for a Peloton run or workout found on Pinterest. Why? I make it home in time to shower and get on my work computer by 8 AM. Well, why? If you are anything like me, I have been floating through the motions of my day for the past 5 years. Doing activities that I thought would promote a healthy lifestyle, invoke change in my personality traits, and lead me to feel fulfilled. In recent months, I have realized that all the floating I have done has only led me to feeling just about the same as when I started 5 years ago. Why?
In feeling lost and somewhat out of control, I knew I needed to figure out who I was at 27 years old. You see, we go through these phases of life that change who we once thought we were. And don’t get me wrong, I want this change to happen because it means I am adapting to growth. But it all too closely resembles the feelings we had in puberty when we didn’t quite know who we would end up as. As I have come to realize, a big piece to this confusing puzzle is to understand your “Why”.
Much to my dismay, I realized that my daily routine was focused on what other people told me was the right thing to do. Why do I get up in the morning and head to the gym? Well, the American Heart Association noted that exercise is crucial for longevity. Why do I run on the treadmill? Well, my doctor mentioned it is good for heart health. Why do I get home in time to start my job at 8 AM? I need a job to support my family and let’s be honest, my boss wouldn’t be too happy if I just never showed up on time.
Your “Why” should be centered around what gives you passion. How you choose to seek happiness in your daily activities. In doing so, you find what exercise you look forward to rather than check off your daily to-do list. You learn what brings you joy in focusing on “you” time. You recharge your batteries in ways you never thought possible. These are all crucial steps to fully understanding your “Why” as a human being put on this earth. Check out all the ways to begin the process of finding your “Why” here.
